How long does it take to build an author web site?

There are multiple steps required to create an author website — from the first flat picture of what it might look like through coding and content generation. The speed at which the site is completed is often determined by the author. The faster the client provides comments and feedback on the design and creates the content for the web pages, the sooner the site will be completed. A site can be created in as little as three weeks, but the process usually takes more like six weeks.

Do I need to know anything about websites?

No … although it’s great if you do. We have worked with a variety of authors — from those who are web-savvy to those who are technophobes. You can have as much or as little input as you’d like in the process. The site we build for you will cater to your specific needs and preferences, regardless of your web experience.

What’s blogging?

A blog, short for “web log,” is a regularly-updated online journal. Authors frequently blog to increase traffic to their websites and keep the content on their sites fresh for returning visitors.

Is there a time commitment involved?

We will build you a site specifically catering to the level of involvement you want to have post-launch. If you want to blog, answer reader questions or participate in a message board, we will build you that functionality. If you want to build a site and never have to touch it again, we can do that as well.

Can I update an author website myself?

Absolutely! And, best of all, you don’t even have to know any web code! If you know how to use Microsoft Word, you can update your own site. Plus, we have people working seven days a week to help you if you have any difficulty making changes post-launch. In addition, if you prefer that we make your website changes, that can be worked into your hosting package.

What kind of marketing do you do for book author websites?

Several basic marketing services are included in the price of building the site, including search engine optimization and registration forms for e-mail newsletters. More advanced services are offered post-launch, including paid search engine marketing, social networking services, grassroots marketing efforts, and more. We will be happy to put together a personalized marketing plan for our authors after their sites are built, just as we put together a personalized site design and content plan in the initial proposal.

Can I sell the book through the website?

Not only can you sell the book, we offer you a multitude of options for how you want to sell your book. Simply want to link to Amazon or B&N? No problem. Selling via PayPal? We can incorporate that into the website. And if you need a full-blown shopping cart, that’s available through our premium package as well.
